Roy Carl Wilcox

Roy Carl Wilcox of Auburn passed away on Thursday, November 14, 2024, at the age of 91. He was born in Alexandria, Virginia on February 4, 1933, to Thomas Allan and Ida Hall (Green) Wilcox. He attended Mars Hill College in North Carolina and graduated from Virginia Polytech Institute (Virginia Tech) with a BS and MS. He then received his PhD from University of Missouri at Rolla. During his time at Virginia Tech, he was a member of the Corp of Cadets. Additionally, he was a member of the National Guard when he resided in Virginia.

He taught ten years at Virginia Tech and moved to Auburn in 1969 where he was a materials engineering professor in the Mechanical Engineering department at Auburn University for 28 years. He and his wife Joanne remained in Auburn after his retirement. He was a long-time member of and Sunday School teacher at Grace United Methodist Church. He was an avid wood carver focusing on birds and flowers. In later years, his interest turned to wood turning, and he made intricately designed bowls and vases.

Roy is survived by his wife, Joanne (White) Wilcox of 59 years, his two children, Karen of Atlanta and Warren (Jenny) of Columbus, Georgia, grandchildren Ace, Rise, Rhiannon and Jude, and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at Grace United Methodist Church in Auburn at 1:00 pm on Friday, November 22. A private burial at Town Creek Cemetery will follow. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Foodbank of East Alabama.
