Ruth E. Gregg
1938-2022
Ruth E. Gregg, age 83, of Opelika, Alabama passed away unexpectedly on January 9, 2022, at Oak Park Nursing Home.
Described as adventurous and fun, Ruth spent her years at Russell High School in East Point, Georgia on the cheerleader squad as well as captain of her basketball team. After graduating in 1956, Ruth attended Auburn University where her love for the football team took root. Being a member of Chi Omega Sorority, and her time living in Hellen Keller Hall were some of her fondest memories at Auburn. It was also where she met her husband of 22 years, Harwell C. Gregg to whom she married on December 1, 1957, in East Point, Georgia.
Ruth spent her life helping others working in various hospitals throughout the Atlanta area that she called home, until retiring to her beloved Auburn community in 2014. There she spent her time as a member of Trinity United Methodist Church of Opelika and of the Washington-Flewellen Sunday School Class.
She made many friends along her journey, cherishing several lifelong relationships and relishing in making new ones along the way. Her passion for Auburn University football was only surpassed by that of her children and her dogs.
Ruth was preceded in death by her son William Earl Gregg and her parents Ruth Durham Timmerman and Thomas Earl Timmerman.
She is survived by her daughters, Becky Duke (Mark), and Amy McKay (Mike); grandchildren, Meredith, William, Abigail, Madeline, Josh, Kaitlyn, Austin, Braden, Parker, and Jared, as well as 14 great grandchildren.
Family will receive friends on January 23, 2022, from 2:00 until 4:00 in the Parlor at Frederick-Dean Funeral Home at 1801 Frederick Road in Opelika, Alabama.
