Sandra Gayle Segrest, also known as Gayle, peacefully passed away on October 14, 2023, at the age of 82 in Jacksonville, Alabama. She was born on December 31, 1940, in Riverview, Alabama. Gayle was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, bringing joy and a fresh burst of air to those around her.

Gayle is preceded in death by her father and mother, Abe and Linda Blackmon, her sister, Katheryn McDonald, and her loving husband, Robert Eugene Segrest.

Gayle is survived by her sister, Sharon Payne, and her children: Bobby Segrest (Carol), Wendi Adkison (Darrell), and Robert Eugene Segrest Jr. She was also a proud grandmother to Brandi Adkison, Mindy Chester (Josie), and Justin Segrest (Kirstia), and great-grandchildren Gavin Nichols, Amaiah Nichols, Avah Segrest, and Tyler Segrest as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In her professional life, Gayle dedicated her years to Auburn University, where she retired from the Administration in the Financial Aid Department in 2003. She was highly regarded for her expertise and contributions to the university.

Gayle found solace and strength in her faith and was a member of Waverly Baptist Church. She found joy in watching Auburn Football and the Atlanta Braves, and indulging in some retail therapy through shopping on QVC.

A funeral service to celebrate Gayle's life will be held on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Frederick-Dean Funeral Home. Pastor Joe Fain will officiate the service. Pallbearers will be Joseph Chester, Billy Segrest, Chris Meadows, Levi Martichuski, Howard Segrest, and Scott Cooper. Prior to the service, visitation will take place from 11:00 AM until 11:45 AM in the Parlor of Frederick-Dean Funeral Home. Following the service, Gayle will be laid to rest at Lebanon Cemetery in Dadeville, Alabama.

Gayle's warm presence, love, and cherished memories will forever remain in the hearts of her family and friends. May she rest in eternal peace.
