Terry Chaffin Davis, Jr. (Shaky)

Terry Chaffin Davis, Jr. (Shaky) 93 was born in Pearisburg VA on April 12, 1932. He died peacefully at home July 30, 2025 in Auburn AL. Son of the late Terry Chaffin Davis, Sr. and Julia Millirons Davis of Pearisburg VA. Brother of Loretta D. Compton (Bob) of Pearisburg VA and the late Christine D. Robinson (Tom) of Blacksburg, VA. Brothers-in-law Tom E. Tabor (Melanie) of Sylva NC and the late James H. Tabor (Mary Lee) of Narrows VA.

Graduated from Pearisburg High School in 1950. Joined the United States Navy from April 1951 - April 1955. He served in the Korean Conflict aboard Minesweepers - USS Endicott (DMS-35), USS Swan (AMS-37) and USS Quail (AM-377) obtaining the rank of YN1 (Yeoman First Class) receiving a Korean Service Medal w/ 5 Stars, United Nations Service Medal and Korean War Service Medal. He then received a B.S. in Forestry and Wildlife Conservation June 7, 1959 and M.S. in Plant Pathology and Physiology May 1961 at Virginia Polytechnic Institute (Virginia Tech) , and a Ph.D. in Forest Pathology at West Virginia University 1964. He was hired at Auburn University Feb. 1, 1965 where he enjoyed teaching for forty two years.

He is survived by his wife Betty Tabor Davis (66+ years of marriage), two sons, Kermit Chaffin Davis, Derek Emmett Davis, one grandson, Jonathan Chaffin Hunt Davis and many nieces and nephews. Family would like to thank special caregivers Doris Hutchinson, Vera Collins, and the late Lettie Jones. Member of Village Christian Church, Auburn AL. An informal Graveside service will be held Sunday, August 3, 2025, 3pm at Town Creek Cemetery 1150 S. Gay St., Auburn AL, provided by Frederick-Dean Funeral Home with Rev. Glen Ward officiating.
