Timothy James Dupree, born on June 1, 1955 in Montgomery, Alabama went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, August 18 at his home in Opelika, Alabama after a lengthy battle with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP). He was cared for by many loving family, friends, and caregivers during his illness. Visitation will be 5-8 PM Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Believers Church in Auburn. Funeral services will be Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Believers Church in Auburn at 3 PM, with Pastors Chris Christian and Benny Hand, and Reverend Dr. Rusty Sowell, burial immediately following at Garden Hills Cemetery in Opelika.
After moving to Opelika in 1969, he attended and graduated from Beauregard High School in 1973. He married his wife, Kathy, in 1973 and they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in April. When Tim became a member of Providence Baptist Church in 1978, he felt led to begin Dupree Motor Company. Specializing in used cars, Tim built his business upon honesty and integrity which brought many return customers throughout the years. Tims office also became a catapult for ministry. Tim was able to minister to many that passed through Dupree Motor Company. Tim didnt just pray and minister to customers, but to all in the community and throughout his travels buying and selling cars. In 1990, Tim and Kathy became members of Believers Church and continued to worship there. Tim held a mens weekly bible study group during breakfast at his home for many years. As Tim matured as a Christian, many would say he was on fire for God in home, business, and community. Tim put God in all he did. On Sunday Tim made the ultimate trade up-from earth to heaven.
Tim was preceded in death by his father, James Monroe Dupree Jr. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Kathy Riddle Dupree; daughter, Erin Dupree Sluder (Jeff) and son, Jay Dupree (Amanda) both of Opelika; his mother Evelyn Wood Dupree of Opelika; sister Kathy Dupree Jones (Barry) of Birmingham, brothers, Doug Dupree and Andy Dupree (Lisa) both of Opelika; 4 grandchildren: Reagan, Ryan, and Ryleigh Sluder and Tanner James Dupree all of Opelika; nieces: Katie Jones Corley (Josh) of Birmingham and Merideth Jones Stodghill (Josh), great nephew Malachi Stodghill of Virginia, and close family friend, Tina Prickett. He has many uncles, aunts, and cousins. Pallbearers are Jackie Butler, Judson Butler, Mark Wallace, Kenny Wilder, Mark Hightower, and Kevin Johnson.
