1953-2022
Tom John Bomberger of Auburn passed away Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at East Alabama Medical Center. He was born on January 30, 1953 at NAS/San Diego, California.
He met his wife, former Karen Lazenby in Pensacola, FL. when introduced by his sister Linda. They were happily married for 45 years. They moved to Auburn, AL. in the spring of 1980 before their first daughter, Kelli, was born. While at Auburn, Tom achieved a BSBA from Auburn University in Accounting and Master of Accountancy/Taxation from Auburn University. He was an Enrolled Agent and self employed until his retirement. He was also a cotton farmer for his in-laws farm, Roy and Linda Lazenby, for 10 years when he first moved to Auburn. In his younger life he was part owner of a motorcycle dealership in Pensacola and enjoyed riding motorcycles and enduro racing. He was also an avid fan of the Atlanta Braves.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom J. Bomberger, LT/US Navy Test Pilot and Doris Faye Bomberger of Pensacola, FL., and grandparents; John and Florence Bomberger, of Hemet, CA. and Bob and Ann Gilbert of Pensacola, FL.
Tom is survived by his wife, Karen; daughters, Kelli Bomberger Truitt (Jason), of Smiths, AL. and Katie Bomberger Betts (Bob) of Reno, NV; sister, Linda Ables and nephew, Zach Ables of Pensacola, FL; brother-in-law, Dennis Lazenby and wife Gwen, of Auburn.
He was so proud of his family and family always came first. His heart was full of love for his children and grandchildren; Reese, Abigail and Anna Truitt, and Weston, Ivy and Eli Betts were all true joys of his life.
Tom was an organ donor recipient and was especially grateful for the nearly six extra years of life he received from his organ donor.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Donate Life Alabama through legacyofhope.org
Special thanks to Dr. Barry Crowe, the staff of East Alabama Medical Center and UAB Medical Center. Tom will live forever in our hearts.
