Segrest, Charles Waller, 88, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012, at his home in Tampa. He was predeceased by his wife of 68 years, Myrtle, who he loved deeply. Charles moved to Tampa with his wife in 2005 from Auburn, Alabama to be near family. Born in Notasulga, Alabama in 1924, Charles was the youngest of 13 children and grew up in Reeltown, AL. Charles served in the United States Navy during WWII and continued his service to the residents of Auburn as an Auburn City Policeman for many years. He also worked as a bus driver for Lee County School System in the late 70s and early 80s. Charles retired from work on January 11, 1991 after serving over 16 years with the State of Alabama Highway Department. He is survived by his son, Charles Allan Segrest of Tampa; his daughters Annette Bartolic of Birmingham, AL; Angela Clemmons (Jim) of Chipley, FL and Amy Cosgrove (Brandt) of Tampa, FL. Grandchildren Ashley and Austin Bartolic, Nathan Clemmons, Lauren, Adam and Luke Cosgrove.. Charles was a member and served as a deacon at Parkway Baptist Church in Auburn, AL. He was a do-it-yourself kind of man who loved farming, mechanics and being outdoors. Charles was a huge Alabama Football fan and loved watching football on TV. He enjoyed his last years of retirement at home with his wife, Myrtle, sitting outside on the swing waving to all who drove by. He will be greatly missed by his family, his caregivers and his dog, Buddy.
